Cigar box purses
Cigar boxes are beautiful items, much too nice to throw away. So I
salvage them from cigar shops and recycle them into designer
accessories, each lovingly crafted and a unique work of art.
I sand them down where necessary, add handles, feet, linings and
mirrors, and decorate them, often using other found objects. If the
hinges and catches are too flimsy to withstand much wear and
tear, I replace them with stronger ones. When I've finished, I add
eight to twelve coats of varnish for added durability.
Whether you call them purses or handbags, I hope you'll want one
of your own. Wherever these little gems travel, they carry a piece
of me and New Orleans with them. For as any artist will tell you,
our work comes from the heart and soul of who we are.
